Friday was practice day for the NCAA women’s basketball teams in the Sweet 16 round in Stockton. Coaches and players also answered questions from the press.
The Stockton Arena is ready and waiting for the first of two games, which kick off Saturday afternoon. First up will be top seed South Carolina versus 12th seed Quinnipiac.
Two-time, All-American forward A’ja Wilson from South Carolina says the hard part is playing so far from home.
“It is tough not having your fans out here but they’re here in spirit, we get the text messages, you the tweets, we see the Instagram posts so we know they’re there, just not physically,” she says.
Quinnipiac is the lowest seeded team still in the tournament but the Bobcats forward Jen Fay says confidence remains high.
“We know this game is going to be even harder than the other two, but there’s no doubt in our mind we can pull off another upset,” Fay says.
For South Carolina, the tough part is pronouncing their opponents name.
“We’ve been saying Quinnipiac is that? I’ve been saying Quinnipiac,“ says Wilson. “I just say QPA, all those other letters got to go.”
