A mongoose lemur gave birth Thursday to a new baby at the Sacramento Zoo. Lemurs are on the critically endangered species list.
Madagascar's mongoose lemurs are now rare in the wild, and somewhat rare at zoos in the U.S.
Matt McKim is the zoo's Director of Animal Care, and says this particular lemur family is on display, so visitors might be able to catch a glimpse of the newborn.
"They are designed to look camouflage, so it is very hard to see, but it is there clinging tightly, a little ball of fur, very similar color of the fur of its mother," says McKim.
Proud parents are Catherina and Elmo.
The newborn at the zoo has yet to be named, because zoo officials aren't sure yet which sex it is.
