A long-awaited bike share program is coming to the Sacramento area next month.
The system will allow people to borrow bikes from kiosks throughout the region.
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments says the system gives residents, workers, and visitors an additional way to get around.
It will start small with 50 to 100 bikes in Sacramento's Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods, as well as West Sacramento's Washington and Bridge Districts.
It's expected to grow to 800 bicycles with an additional 100 electric bicycles later this fall.
Expansion plans also include Davis.
Those with monthly or annual passes get one free hour of bicycle use per day.
Non-members can rent the bikes at a rate of four dollars per hour.
