The California Chamber of Commerce is out with its annual job killer list of bills introduced by state lawmakers. There are 23 proposed measures on the list that CalChamber says will have a negative impact on California's job climate and economic recovery.
There are several bills that headline this list. Single payer healthcare, which faces its first committee hearing next week. Expansion of job protected family leave for new parents, and that's a bill that's gotten through the Legislature in the past only to draw a veto from Governor Brown.
And then several targeted tax increases, some are predictable like the soda tax increase, but one that's remarkable is the sales tax exemption for tampons and diapers. Because to offset the loss in revenue it would raise the excise tax on liquor and CalChamber considers that a targeted tax increase.
