Event organizers in Stockton are looking for at least 1,034 marchers in time for the slew of March For Science events happening in more than 500 cities around the world on Saturday.
Victory Park will be the site of Stockton's March for Science. Breaking it down to a simple math problem, the pathway around the park is .784 miles and with an average wingspan of 4 feet per person. It will take 1,034 people to hold hands to produce a chain reaction, like doing the wave in a stadium.
March organizer Ava Simpson says partisan politics are not in the equation for why marchers worldwide are showing the importance of science.
“I’m concerned with us leaving this planet with clean air, clean water and that we don’t go backward on advances that have been essential and we’re not making decisions based on facts,” Simpson says.
Simpson says she’s not a scientist and many who are taking part aren’t either, but they plan to show their support for science and policies based on scientific evidence.
Forty-one cities and communities in California will be on the march on Saturday including Sacramento, Modesto, Lake Tahoe, Merced, Chico and Sonora.
