Bus service in Stockton is about to get faster, quieter, and cleaner.
Stockton will be among the first in the nation to have all electric rapid transit bus routes.
Four million passengers climb aboard San Joaquin RTD buses annually.
The buses serving Stockton include hybrid electric and electric, but soon 10 more electric buses will be added this year, and another five next year.
Terry Williams with RTD says new express routes with all electric buses could come as soon as this summer.
“We’re going to be up and running, looks like by August, with our all-electric bus rapid transit route running in South Stockton, so that will certainly make us one of the very first in the nation,” says Williams.
He also says the buses cost about $800,000 each but they are being paid through grants.
