A new study ranked 150 of the largest U.S. cities for the Best Places for Summer Jobs. You might be surprised to find out that Modesto made the top ten.
The personal-finance website WalletHub chose Orlando, Florida as its top choice for summer jobs, and Modesto comes in at Number 8.
Researchers used 21 different factors to determine the best cities including available jobs, the median income of part-time workers, and even rent prices.
Modesto Community and Economic Development Director Cindy Birdsill says there are many public and private partnerships that have opened up opportunities.
“This is very exciting because just three years ago, we were ranked by one study as the second worst city in the nation for youth employment, so it’s been a pretty quick turnaround with these conscious efforts,” says Birdsill.
She also says companies like Foster Farms, Del Monte and Vintage Faire Mall have created many new jobs.
WalletHub ranked Sacramento 45th in the study, and Stockton came in at 88.
