After decades in the community, the California National Guard no longer has a base in the city of Auburn.
The 184th Infantry Battalion, is now based at the Okinawa Street Armory in South Sacramento.
Lt. Colonel Phillip Joel Armstrong is the Commander. He says the unit's new home offers a place to train and operate at a single-use facility.
"The new armory that we have access to has a security gate. The building is secure and people can't just walk in like they can the Auburn area."
Armstrong says the Guard was reluctant to pay for any upgrades required by the Americans With Disabilities Act at its old home, which was the Gold Country Fairgrounds.
The 184th supplies 500 troops from the Sacramento area to assist local law enforcement agencies across the state in cases of emergency.
