A Red Flag fire warning is in effect Monday afternoon for a large swath of Western Nevada, and a portion of Lassen County in California.
Strong winds and extremely dry conditions are the main concerns.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District covers most of Washoe County.
Fire Marshal Amy Ray says the winds in the forecast are the most troublesome.
"We say you can remove the oxygen from the fire by putting water on it, you can remove the fuel by a dozer or putting retardant, again removing the oxygen, or creating a handline, but the thing we cannot control and we cannot change is the wind," she says.
Ray says this June has seen more fires than normal for Washoe County.
She says human activity, including target practice, is responsible for causing several of those fires.
