There was a deadly collision between a Stockton police patrol vehicle and a sedan early Wednesday morning.
There's an ongoing investigation at the accident scene through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The accident scene at Wilson Way and Martin Luther King Boulevard will be closed to traffic throughout the day as investigators remain on scene.
According to Stockton Police, two officers in a patrol SUV were traveling with lights and sirens on when they collided with a sedan at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Wilson Way.
Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva says the officers were on their way to help other officers who put out a call of shots fired.
“Those officers were actually in a foot pursuit of possible suspects, so you had other officers in the nearby vicinity responding to assist,” says Silva.
Silva also says the driver of the sedan, who was alone, was killed in the crash.
He says the two officers sustained minor to moderate injuries and were admitted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
“So right now, we’ve invoked a protocol investigation where you have the California Highway Patrol, the district attorney’s office, and the Stockton Police Department investigating this very unfortunate tragedy,” Silva says.
