UPDATE 5:08 p.m.: Firefighters have now contained a brush fire near Zinfandel and Douglas Boulevard in Rancho Cordova. The fire broke out about 2:30 p.m. and has consumed around 140 acres according to Sacramento Metro Fire.
The fire damaged at least two empty buildings.
Original Post: Crews were busy Monday afternoon as they battled several fires in the Sacramento region and in the Sparks area.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported a 100-acre fire in the Rancho Cordova area. The blaze erupted near Zinfandel Drive and Sunrise Boulevard.
Near Wilton, traffic on Highway 99 was backed up due to a grass fire.
Another grass fire burned near Phillips and Westbrook roads in Roseville. There were no structures threatened in that blaze.
Meanwhile near Sparks, a fire in the Golden Eagle area prompted a brief voluntary evacuation. That evacuation has since been canceled though the blaze continues to burn.
