Lincoln police got a surprise last week while cleaning up after some transients who had been camped in the Auburn Ravine.
The officers discovered that people were living inside the Highway 65 bypass.
Somebody had removed a grate to gain access to the overpass.
Cal Trans and an environmental cleaning crew cleared out the site.
Police say it had separate rooms for sleeping, cooking, and garbage.
The garbage room included rotten food, syringes and jugs of what was presumed to be urine.
