Fire crews have made gains against the Detwiler Fire blaze that has scorched 78,900 acres of dense brush and dead trees near Yosemite National Park. CAL FIRE says the blaze is 65 percent contained.
The wildfire burning for more than a week has destroyed 63 homes and 68 other buildings. Officials say it could take crews another two weeks to fully surround it.
The blaze continues to threaten about 1,500 structures in Mariposa County. Some residents were allowed to return to their homes last weekend, but mandatory evacuation orders remain in place for parts of the county.
The blaze is one of more than a dozen that have ravaged California in recent weeks.
