Top political leaders from California and Nevada say bipartisan efforts are needed to protect Lake Tahoe for future generations.
All four US Senators, one Governor, and two Congressmen from the two states that share Lake Tahoe gathered at Tallac Historic Site on the Tahoe shoreline for the 21st annual summit. California Gov. Jerry Brown was not there.
It was hosted this year by Senator Dianne Feinstein.
It was a bipartisan gathering, which hasn’t always been the case for these summits. But, as several of the politicians pointed out, it has been bipartisan efforts in recent years that has helped manage some of Tahoe’s biggest environmental problems.
Climate change was the main focus of this year’s event. The Democrats pushed the point often. Republican Congressman Tom McClintock agreed that the warming climate is an issue, but said he disagrees with his Democratic colleagues on whether fossil fuels are a contributing factor.
