Heavy smoke from fires burning throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon is causing dangerous health conditions throughout the Sacramento Valley.
The Sacramento Air Quality Management District issued an advisory today, warning of the smokey conditions.
District Spokesman Thomas Hall says the unhealthy air is likely to be with us for several days.
"We are expecting that the worst of it will be between now and Saturday," Hall says. "We think some of it may blow out on Sunday, but we're taking precautions and advising people to be aware of the air all the way through Monday."
Some schools in the valley have chosen to cancel practice for athletic teams because of the smokey air.
The Air Quality District says everyone should minimize outdoor activities in these conditions, even if they’re healthy.
