Sacramento County set a new record for overall agricultural output last year. The crop and livestock report revealed the gross value of all agriculture production topped half-a-billion dollars for the first time.
Sacramento County Agriculture Commissioner Juli Jensen said the county was helped by a dramatic increase in the price of wine grapes.
"Wine grapes continue to rule in Sacramento County for the past eight years and milk continues to hang on as number two," Jensen said.
Pears also had a good year, Jensen said.
Those crops made up for a significant drop in crop yield for rice, wheat and corn. Yields for other crops such as cherries and walnuts also fell, as did cattle, calves and other livestock.
The dollar figures don't include the costs for production, processing, transportation, or labor.
