California Republicans gather in Anaheim this weekend for the state party’s semi-annual convention – with former White House advisor Steve Bannon headlining the list of speakers.
The polarizing Bannon will address a state Republican Party whose registration dropped below 26 percent in the latest totals released earlier this year.
Former GOP strategist and Stanford University political analyst Bill Whalen says Bannon is one of the few to put forth a specific vision for the Republican Party.
“I don’t think it’s a good vision for the party – I think it’s ultimately a suicidal vision, but that said, he’s offering a vision," says Whalen. "So I think California Republicans should a) grant him an audience and let him express the vision, and b) if you don’t like it, come up with a rival vision of your own.”
Other prominent speakers at this weekend’s convention include House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton.
