The Sacramento based movie Ladybird has received critical acclaim for its poignant story illustrating the complexities of a teenage daughter-mother relationship.
Insight host Beth Ruyak spoke with the lead actor playing Ladybird, Saoirse Ronan, about her experience filming here.
"Had you ever been to Sacramento before shooting the scenes here last year?" Ruyak asked.
"I hadn't no, I had never been. I had been given a lot of Joan Didion to read in the year leading up to the shoot. Just to get the idea of the sort of mindset of a Sacramentan and I guess you know sometimes it can maybe be in the shadow of like other parts of California but it really is its own place. And it's so different to everywhere else I've been to in California and I loved it. I really loved it. And after reading so much about it to actually go there it really made sense to me," Ronan said.
The film was written and directed by Sacramento native and St. Francis High School graduate Greta Gerwig. You can hear the full conversation with Saoirse Ronan on Monday morning's Insight at 9 a.m.
