Sacramento residents attended Run to Feed the Hungry en masse this year, bringing with them the enthusiasm and holiday spirit that make the annual tradition so cherished.
Turkey hats, tutus and neon garb were just a few of the main fashion trends Thursday, though costumes of all varieties made an appearance.
A record 29,604 people attend the fund raiser for Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, breaking last year's turnout of 29,002, according to spokesperson Kelly Siefkin.
Western Health Advantage was the main sponsor of this year's race, though dozens of other community organizations participated. The event has raised about $925,000 so far, and hopes to raise $165,000 by mid-December.
Jean Sullivan said she's run the race with the same group of friends for the last 15 years.
"It's kind of a tradition," she said. "We always get jazzed up and have a great time for a great cause. And what more to be thankful for than food on our table later on today? So we're helping those that can't do it on their own."
The food bank serves about 135,000 people each month.
