(AP) - Assemblywoman Laura Friedman had no idea a sexual harassment scandal was about to explode in Sacramento when she was elected last year.
Now, she's helping lead the California Legislature's response.
The Glendale Democrat will chair public hearings starting Tuesday aimed at cleaning up a culture at the Capitol that women say allows sexual harassment to go unchecked.
Friedman is leading a subcommittee tasked with evaluating the Legislature's anti-harassment policies and recommending ways to strengthen them.
The California Legislature has been awash in allegations of sexual harassment. Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra and Sen. Tony Mendoza will be investigated over claims of repeated unwanted advances.
