A Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission panel has selected about 60 arts organizations to share a $500,000 grant.
Anja Aulenbacher is the Grants and Cultural Programs Coordinator for the commission.
"They can actually use the grant for anything that they need in their organization," Aulenbacher said. "So, some organizations choose to pay their artists: dancers, actors and so on. Some of them choose to use it to pay the rent on the facility that they use."
The panel scored the organizations, which all submitted videos and plans for spending the money. They gave the Verge Center for the Arts, Sacramento Guitar Society and Sacramento Area Youth Speaks the three highest scores.
The full commission, Sacramento City Council and Sacramento Board of Supervisors must still approve the panel's recommendations. The city and county supply the money for the grant.
Capital Public Radio, Folsom Lake Symphony, and Sacramento Japanese Film Festival were also among those selected.
