(AP) - UCLA fraternities have banned alcohol at frat house events in the wake of an alleged sexual assault.
Leaders of the UCLA Interfraternity Council, which represents 22 Bruin fraternities, passed the ban on Tuesday.
The council said Wednesday that the indefinite prohibition aims to ensure the safety and well-being of people at fraternity activities.
The council didn't say what prompted the move but it comes only days after a former fraternity president, 21-year-old Benjamin Orr, was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape.
The arrest came after a woman reported being sexually assaulted Saturday at an off-campus party.
Orr is free on bail and it's not clear if he has a lawyer.
Fraternities nationwide have moved to rein in drinking and hazing after several reported deaths.
