Chicago-based agricultural company Archer Daniels Midland has picked Davis as the site of its new research lab. The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says one reason is UC Davis.
"The agriculture and food science programs at Davis have attracted widespread attention and the company wants to have access to the talent and resources available at the university," says Sorich. "Once it opens the location will employ 10 to 12 full-time workers."
The Ag giant specializes in the trading and processing of various food crops. The company's new enzyme research and development lab in Davis will be part of the effort to develop animal feeds. It's expected to open in April
New Ten22 Concept
Sacramento's competitive restaurant scene has prompted a well-known eatery in Old Sacramento to close its doors next month so that the owners can do a re-boot. The owners of Ten22 say they want to keep up with changing tastes and are working on a new concept for the space on 2nd Street. Sorich says they're calling it "a dining concept positioned for the future."
"On March 2, both Ten22 and its sister business called District, will close for the re-branding," says Sorich. "Ten22 serves New American cuisine on the ground floor of the Orleans Building in Old Sacramento. Ten22 opened nearly a decade ago and its sister business debuted in 2016."
No details yet on the new eatery, but the owners say a lot has changed since Ten22 opened, both in the local restaurant scene and in what customers want from a restaurant.
La Crosta Pizza Bar Coming to West Sacramento
If you love pizza, there's a new restaurant in the works in West Sacramento you might want to know about. It's called La Crosta Pizza Bar. Sorich says it comes from the same people who operate The Rind, a midtown Sacramento eatery known for its cheeses, wines and beers.
"After opening The Rind in 2013, the operators are now turning to pizza in West Sacramento," says Sorich. "An opening date for the new business hasn't been announced, but it's definitely one to watch."
The new pizza bar will be at 330 Third Street in West Sacramento.
