A grass fire near the west side of Sutter Buttes grew to around 1,000 acres Tuesday evening, according to Cal Fire.
The fire broke out near Pass Road and West Butte Road, nine miles northwest of Yuba City. The fire threatened four homes, multiple gas wells, and the communications array atop South Butte.
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday no homes were threatened, according to the Sutter County Office of Emergency Management. The agency said there was "no threat to surrounding communities including Sutter, Meridian, and Live Oak."
