Two New Hotel Projects In Rancho Cordova
A Homewood Suites by Hilton Hotel with 105 rooms is under construction, and a TownePlace Suites hotel with 118 rooms is under design review. The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says it's a sign that Rancho Cordova's business travel and tourism is growing.
"Last year, the city saw increases in both its hotel room rental revenue and its number of room stays booked," says Sorich. "That could be due to a rise in business travel, several healthcare and insurance companies are based in Rancho Cordova."
The city's also been hosting events that could be bringing in more tourists, including the U.S. rowing championships and other sporting competitions.
Labor Union No Longer Opposes Centene Project
A labor union has withdrawn its challenge to the proposed Centene project in North Natomas. Centene is a Saint Louis-based health insurance company that wants to build a corporate hub at East Commerce Way and Arena Boulevard. City officials helped broker an agreement between the Laborers' International Union and the developer. The union argued that before the project moves forward, an environmental impact report, or EIR, should be produced. Sorich says it's not clear whether an EIR will still be conducted.
"We still have to wait and see how this project unfolds," says Sorich. "City documents suggest construction is expected to begin in October. Centene has been pretty quiet about this proposed project. Representatives from the health insurer haven't even confirmed they're building their regional hub in Sacramento."
Building permit applications seem to confirm the project is moving forward. Last November, the city entered into an employment incentive agreement with Centene. Under the deal, Centene could get up to $13.5 million in exchange for bringing 5,000 jobs to Sacramento.
Broderick Roadhouse Comes To Carmichael's Milagro Centre
A restaurant in Carmichael's Milagro Centre is re-branding itself. The eatery formerly known as The Patriot is now a Broderick Roadhouse. Sorich says so far, there are no specific reasons for the change.
"But the Patriot and Broderick do have the same operator," says Sorich. "And the Broderick brand is pretty well-known, it has other sites in the Sacramento area as well. So it's a familiar brand coming to that Carmichael center."
The Patriot was open for about a year and served American cuisine. The local chain Broderick Roadhouse is known for its burgers.
