Airline service from Stockton Metropolitan Airport to Los Angeles will begin in August, the first time in 15 years the airport will offer daily service to a large international hub.
United Express will have two daily flights to LAX with a roundtrip ticket costing about $185.
Airport Director Russell Stark says no longer will area passengers have to travel an hour or more for the closest airport.
“We’re losing about 5 million passengers a year to the airports surrounding us, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco and that’s really revenue leaving this county,” Stark said.
"With United, we’re going to capture the business traveler, the family travelers that want to go worldwide," he said. "That’s going to increase our passenger count but it provides a great balance of service that we’re going to be able to provide here at the airport "
Allegiant Airlines is currently Stockton’s only passenger service with flights to Phoenix, San Diego, and Las Vegas.
