The Sacramento District Attorney's Office announced Monday it will need more time to complete its review of whether to file charges against the two officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark.
In a statement, the office said that it received supplemental investigative materials from the state Attorney General’s Office, which is also conducting an independent review of the Clark case, on January 16.
“Our timeline for completion of our review has thus been delayed,” the DA’s statement reads, “as we process the supplemental materials.”
The statement adds that the office will take “whatever time is needed” to complete the review.
The DA is reviewing the Sacramento Police Department’s investigation into the Clark case, which it received on October 25. A spokesperson for the DA said at that time its goal was to finish its review in 90 days.
Also on Monday, family members of Clark filed a wrongful-death lawsuit in federal court, blaming the city of Sacramento for the shooting. Clark’s mother, grandmother, uncle and children are seeking more than $20 million in damages.
