The family of Stephon Clark will hold a "legacy weekend" honoring his life starting Friday and running through Monday, the anniversary of Clark's death.
"This will be a way to not only honor and remember the life of Stephon, but uplift and bring communities together in a time of healing," Clark's brother Stevante Clark said announcing the events earlier this month.
Clark was killed March 18 after Sacramento police responded to a 911 call of a man breaking car windows in the South Sacramento neighborhood of Meadowview. The two officers pursued Clark into a backyard — which they later learned was his grandmother’s home — where they shot him multiple times. The officers said they believed Clark had a gun, but police only discovered a cell phone next to his body.
The family unveiled plans for the events on March 3, one day after Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced she would not bring criminal charges against the officers, Jared Robinet and Terrence Mercadal.
This weekend's events will include a teen summit, mothers brunch, and a remembrance Monday with a keynote speech from Rev. Al Sharpton, who also spoke at Clark's funeral last year.
All the events will take place in Meadowview.
"We all need healing," Stevante Clark said. "Not just the Clark family was affected by this, but the whole Meadowview community, Sacramento community, national community were affected by this."
