On April 2, 1979, Capital Public Radio signed on for the very first time, officially bringing public radio to the Sacramento region. That makes today our 40th birthday!
Since that first broadcast we've grown to include two stations, offering a mix of news, classical and jazz. This website is new since then, too.
For our very first selection way back then, we picked the "Hallelujah" chorus from George Frideric Handel's "Messiah." It seemed appropriate for such a joyous moment. And today, on our 40th birthday, we wanted to share that moment with you.
Want to celebrate with us? We’re open to presents, cake, well wishes, etc. But the best gift is your continued support of the station. Join the party by becoming an Evergreen member.
