Caltrans is reporting that Highway 99 is closed in south Sacramento due to police activity.
Southbound traffic is being diverted at Mack Road, while northbound traffic is being diverted at Calvine Road. Caltrans says the closure is causing congestion in the downtown area and as far as Elk Grove.
CHP is advising drivers to use alternate routes. There is no estimate on when the highway will be reopened.
