A UC Davis student who was quarantined and tested for coronavirus disease COVID-19 has been cleared by Yolo County Public Health, according to the university.
Thursday, UC Davis announced that a student living in Kearney Hall may have been exposed to COVID-19 and was in isolation after showing possible symptoms. The student's two roommates, who were not showing symptoms, were also in isolation.
On Saturday Yolo County Public Health announced the student's test was negative. They and the two roommates have now been released from isolation.
UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May said in a statement Thursday the university has no plans to cancel classes. As of Saturday evening, there have been no positive COVID-19 cases in Yolo County.
There are four COVID-19 cases in Sacramento County, including at least one at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. That case gained national attention when it was announced as the first possible case of community spread in the United States — meaning one not connected to travel outside the country or another infected person. There has since been another such case in Santa Clara County and in Oregon and Washington.
On Saturday the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the nation's first death related to COVID-19.
