As California’s economy reopens, coronavirus cases continue to climb. But Gov. Gavin Newsom says he isn’t worried — he attributes the numbers to increased testing, and says California’s positivity rate has remained stable for several weeks.
The governor says the state has enough hospital beds to handle a surge, but he says it’s up to county health directors to control outbreaks of the disease.
"We put up guidelines, but guidelines don’t mean go," Newsom said. "We put up guidelines that create a framework of how we believe we can reopen the economy safely, but we don’t prescribe when.
Still, Newsom pleaded with Californians to continue to wear face masks and practice social distancing as they return to public life. Watch his full remarks above.
