Editor’s Note: On Dec. 23, we republished a story from Calmatters on Congress’ federal stimulus package that may no longer be relevant as President Donald Trump has said he would veto the bill.
Trump threatened to derail the $900 billion COVID-19 relief package after Congress passed it Monday following months of bitter negotiations. He said that the bill’s payments of up to $600 to qualifying individuals in the current bill are “ridiculously low,” and that he wants to see that boosted to $2,000 per individual and $4,000 for couples.
This means Congress may have to renegotiate the provisions in the package, making some information we published in the story irrelevant. We regret the confusion this may have caused.
