Yosemite National Park overnight campers will be seeing a fee increase this fall.
While current prices currently range from about $6 for an individual camper to $50 for group campsites, those fees just may be rising soon.
“We want to adjust campground fees in Yosemite to continue to be consistent with our neighboring properties, both for service properties and private campgrounds in the area,” Park Ranger Jamie Richard said.
Under the new pricing structure, fees would range from $10 per person to $75 for a 30-person group campsite.
According to a press release, the park says the fee increases are consistent with other public and private campgrounds within the greater Sierra Nevada region. Plus, the park plans to use that money for several projects, including upgrades to restrooms and shower facilities, restoration of native plants, sign repair and more.
Yosemite retains 80% of park fees. They say the additional revenue collected will support both current and future maintenance.
The price hike will also help the park “maintain critical supplies” of brochures and other materials, along with providing Ranger-guided educational programming, additional staffing for busy periods and extra hands to help with emergency and safety situations.
The fee increase isn’t a done deal just yet. Yosemite is taking comments on the proposed increases through July 10, 2021. If everything stays unchanged, the new prices will go into effect in October.
