The Latest: Wildfire survivors in Northern California have more time to apply for federal assistance.
FEMA originallly had a deadline of Oct. 25 for those impacted by wildfires in 20201 to apply for assistance. That deadline has been extended until Nov. 8. The extension applies to homeowners and renters in Lassen, Plumas, Nevada, Placer, Tehama and Trinity counties.
There are multiple ways to apply.
More information on the process is available here.
The Dixie Fire has reached 100% containment.
The Caldor Fire closure area in the Eldorado National Forest was reduced Oct. 15 due to increased containment, moderated weather, repaired areas and hazardous tree removal. Desolation Wilderness, areas north of Highway 50 and west of the closure area and areas on the south side of Highway 88 are open with the smaller fire closure area, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Small areas around Wrights Lake and Thunder Mountain remain closed. Winter recreation sites within the closure area, including Sierra at Tahoe, Adventure Mountain and Sno-Parks, will be assessed and reopened when safe.
