Evacuation orders and warnings continue to be issued for residents living in the area of the fast-growing Caldor Fire, with fire officials saying that it could be at least one to two weeks before people can start returning to areas that have been evacuated.
An evacuation order is a lawful order issued due to an immediate threat to life, with the area closed to all public access, while a warning indicates a potential threat to life. When an evacuation warning is issued, those with pets, livestock or additional circumstances that might delay evacuation should start the process of leaving if possible.

Evacuation basics
Shelters/transportation
- The Tahoe Transit department is assisting with evacuations.
- Routes 50 and 55 will bring evacuees to Stateline Transit Center.
- If you need transportation and aren’t near Routes 50 or 55, call 911.
- Boomtown Casino Hotel (2100 Boomtown Garson Road, Verdi, NV 89439) is offering 50% room rates for Caldor Fire evacuees. If needed, contact hotel reservations at 1-866-553-8360 or by email at [email protected] and mention you are a Caldor Fire evacuee. ID is required at check-in.
- Peppermill Resort Hotel (2707 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502) is offering 20% off rooms and waived resort fees for Caldor Fire evacuees. Contact 800-648-6992 or show up.
- High Sierra Fellowship (1250 Gilman Avenue, Gardnerville, NV 89410) is offering camping and RV sites (no hookups) for Caldor Fire evacuees. Contact 775-782-7486.
- LifePoint Church (1095 Stephanie Way, Minden, NV 89423) is offering RV parking (no hookups) for Caldor Fire evacuees, with bathrooms (no showers) available and room for small pets. Call 775-267-0151 or register here.
- Nevada State Railroad Museum (2180 South Carson Street, Carson City, NV 89701) is allowing Caldor Fire evacuee RVs and small campers to use their parking lot for overnight parking, with restrooms available. Call 775-687-6953.
- El Dorado Casino Resort (345 North Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89501) is offering $79 rooms for Caldor Fire evacuees, with 2 crated pets allowed per room. Call 775-786-5700 to book or show up.
- Circus Circus (500 North Sierra Street, Reno, NV 89503) is offering 30% off rooms and $50 off resort fees for Caldor Fire evacuees with code fire21. Call 888-288-1833 or visit here to book.
- Gold Dust West-Carson City (2171 East William Street, Carson City, NV 89701) is offering $49 rooms for Caldor Fire, Tahoe-area evacuees; no pets allowed and ID must be shown, but limited RV space is available. Call 775-885-9000 to book or learn more.
- Atlantis Casino Resort (3800 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502) is offering $79 rooms — no resort fee — for Caldor Fire evacuees with proof of ID. Call 775-825-4700 to book or show up.
Food/basic needs
- Feed El Dorado is holding drive-thru food distributions this week and next for victims of the Caldor Fire. You can find more information about locations and times on the Feed El Dorado Facebook page.
- The Caldor Fire Donations & Help Facebook group connects fire victims with donors and people looking to help.
- Diabetes Nevada will provide diabetic evacuees with supplies — call 800-379-3839.
- If your physical address is/was between Kyburz & California Tahoe Basin, you can apply for up to $300 in emergency relief funding here.
- If you are a California Teachers Association member, you can apply to receive up to $1,500 for disaster assistance here.
Childcare/family support
- Gymboree in Reno is offering free open gyms to Caldor Fire evacuee children 6 months to 5 years old — schedule a visit and hear the schedule at 775-852-4FUN.
- The Boys & Girls Club Placerville Clubhouse (2840 Mallard Drive, Placerville, CA 95667) is open to Caldor Fire evacuee children for free — kids get breakfast, lunch and snacks. The clubhouse is open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Paperwork, mail, etc
- The El Dorado County Registrar has a guide for how evacuees can vote in the recall election.
- Free disaster legal assistance is available via the Disaster Legal Assistance Hotline at 888-382-3406.
- Recovery resources can be found at Folsom Lake College — El Dorado Center, 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville, CA 95667. They are open Sep. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sep. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- El Dorado Disposal is offering evacuation vouchers to active accounts, which can be claimed by calling 530-626-4141.
If you’re outside the region, here are some ways you can help evacuees
Volunteering
- Sign up to volunteer to help the Red Cross provide meals and shelter to Caldor Fire victims here.
- Sign up to volunteer with El Dorado County to provide website support or animal care services in evacuation sites here.
- Sign up to volunteer as a camp counselor for free pop-up day camps for families affected by wildfires here. Camps are for children aged 6-16 years old and will be held at The Discovery, 490 S Center Street, Reno, NV 89501.
Donating
- The Caldor Fire Donations & Help Facebook group connects fire victims with donors and people looking to help.
- Give Disaster Resources is collecting funds for those who have lost their homes in the Caldor Fire here.
- Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, which is helping evacuate and support South Lake Tahoe’s unsheltered community, is collecting donations here.
- Placerville Foods Co-Op is handing out grocery kits for wildfire survivors here.
- NorCal Resist has an emergency fund for wildfire victims — for more information, call 916-382-0256.
- Friends in Service Helping (FISH), which serves rural north Nevada and is feeding evacuees daily meals, distributing necessities and opening a temporary housing facility for fire survivors, is accepting donations here.
- The El Dorado Community Foundation is accepting donations for Caldor Fire victims.
- The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund is accepting donations to support local nonprofits helping people affected by wildfires.
- Salvation Army Del Oro is providing meals to the Caldor Fire shelters; you can donate to their wildfire relief fund here.
- The Amador Community Foundation is accepting donations for their large animal rescue fund and their disaster relief fund via their website or via phone, at 209-223-2148.
- Donate to Help Sierra Breathe, a coalition of Nevada and California organizations working to get N95 masks to those close to the Caldor Fire, here.
