Voters around the Sacramento region dropped off ballots or voted in-person Tuesday, getting their choices in for California's primary election.

For the ones who getting their ballots in Tuesday morning, many said primaries are an important part of democracy.
“It’s one of the privileges we have as Americans. Right?" said Chris Marzan, who voted in Midtown Sacramento soon after the polls opened. As you can see I’m here with my child and I really wanted to show her the importance of casting a ballot and taking part in community decisions. She asked me this morning, what is voting, mom? And I said it’s about making your voice heard within your community.

It’s important to vote. My parents were born in the early 1900s, so they didn’t actually have the right to vote because they were African American. So, they always told me that it was important to vote.

I know a lot of young people don’t [vote], and I always think voting is important. And it was pretty easy. It was fun.
