If you need a ride to cast your ballot on Election Day, several transit districts in the Sacramento Valley are pitching in to help out.
Sacramento Regional Transit District, Yolobus and San Joaquin Regional Transit District are offering free rides to help bring voters to polling stations and ballot drop-off locations on Nov. 8.
All of SacRT’s bus routes, including the Causeway Connection, Elk Grove, e-van, Folsom and Rancho CordoVan routes will be offering free rides, along with its light rail and on-demand transit services. Riders do not need to present a flier to get a free ride.
SacRT offers a Google Transit planner to help riders plan ahead of time.
San Joaquin RTD is also offering free rides on its Express, Local, and Hopper bus services on Election Day. In order to ride free, riders must tell bus operators they are headed to a polling place or ballot drop off location. RTD’s Commuter and Van-Go! buses are not offering free rides.
“It is essential that everyone has the ability to perform their civic duty and cast their ballot,” said RTD CEO Alex Clifford. “No one should be denied their right to vote simply because they can’t afford a ride. Free public transportation on election day will help by providing access to those who may not have transportation and help ensure that everyone can participate in our democracy.”
San Joaquin RTD offers a trip planner service to help riders plan ahead of time.
Yolobus is offering free rides system-wide on Election Day. Riders do not need to present a flier to get a free ride.
