As Sacramento faces yet another triple-digit forecast this weekend, local agencies are reopening cooling centers to help residents seek respite from the heat.
The centers offer air-conditioned spaces for unhoused people and others who don’t have access to home cooling.
Sacramento broke heat records last weekend. And though it cooled down early in the week, meteorologists with the National Weather Service are predicting Friday and Saturday could see temperatures up to 106 and 105, respectively. A heat advisory is in place for most of Northern California between 11 a.m. Friday and 11 p.m. Saturday.
Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free rides to and from cooling centers between Friday and Sunday. To be eligible for the free fair, riders must present this flier to fare collectors. To find a bus or light rail to a cooling center, SacRT offers a trip planning tool.

DHA offices are open to the public between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and county officials said the office will stay open as a cooling center between 4 and 8 p.m. those days. On Saturday and Sunday, the offices will be open between 2 and 8 p.m. for respite.
Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash or in a carrier at all times.
