Stockton hopes to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest water balloon fight this Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to hit around 102 degrees, and Splash Fest organizers hope it’ll be a way to cool off while grabbing a claim to fame at the same time.
DeMar Johnson is with Balloons Over Bullets, which is sponsoring the event to help stop gun violence and provide a safe space for kids.
“The record that’s set right now is just under 9,000 people with 176,000 balloons,” he said. “We plan on breaking the record with 10,000 people, 209,000 water balloons.”
The free event held at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds will feature food trucks, live music, giant water slides and dunk tanks. The only cost associated is parking, which comes out to $10.
Johnson said the gates open at noon on Saturday and people can just walk in or register online ahead of time.
He added that whole families can sign up but when the water balloons go flying, it’s every man, woman and child for themselves.
