A celebration of dulcet rhythm and blues tunes will be blasting from speakers throughout Cesar Chavez Park while the DJ spins this Sunday as the summer ends.
R&B In The Park will make its debut in the heart of Sacramento featuring local DJs, R&B hits from different eras, live painting, food trucks, fashion, and more. The event is for people who love R&B music and is organized by Old School Entertainment, Sacramento Life, Te The Bartender, and 97.5 KDEE.
Elijah Ja’ron, also known as DJ Eli In The Mix, will be performing his set withR&B hits dating back from the Motown era until now to enjoy with friends, family, and your significant other.
“I'm super excited,” Ja’ron said about the event. “I've always had a vision of what it would be like to play this park at night, during sunset, people singing. So that dream of mine is finally coming to fruition and coming true. I know I have a lot of loved ones and friends out there, people that support me. This is something that we mark down in history, and to say that I'm a part of it, really does my heart well. And just giving God the glory for opening this door.”
Ja’ron said he specializes in nostalgia, so, come prepared to sing along to hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s.
“I want people, when I play my set, to have an instant feeling of nostalgia, ‘Oh my gosh. I remember my mom used to play this when we were cleaning up on Saturday mornings.’” Ja’ron said. “I want people to look around [and] look at their partner or their friend and I want them to sing and I want them to dance. Look at each other, smile and leave that park feeling like they had the best experience in their life.”
Nathan Zielke is an entrepreneur who runs Sacramento Life on Instagram. He said his goal for the event is to show the people of Sacramento that you don’t always have to leave the city to find fun.
Zielke said the organizers want to bring everybody together into one place and to allow people to experience good energy by singing to their favorite tunes.
“We're gonna have painters out there doing some live art all around the area,” Zielke said. “We'll have a bunch of vendors, a lot of clothing, fashion, jewelry, and then a lot of food as well. It's a gathering, a celebration, especially as summer is coming to the end and we're about to move into the indoor season. So it's kind of the last ride; you celebrate and have a good time.”
The event is 21-and-older and presale tickets are still available with after-party events at Tiger Restaurant and Lounge and Blue Cue.
“This is a great opportunity to come out, get some food, if you drink, have a drink or two, and sing, dance, have a good time, and really just understand that music is what unites us and bring us all together, and this is what it's about,” Ja’ron said.
