Sacramento Regional Transit is offering system-wide free rides to polling places, voting centers and ballot drop boxes on Election Day.
SacRT officials said the program aims to ensure all residents have access to vote.
Throughout Election Day, riders can travel on Sac RT’s fixed-route buses, light rail, SmaRT GO paratransit shuttles, and SmaRT Ride for free.
“By offering free rides on Election Day, we aim to remove transportation as a barrier, making it easier for residents throughout the region to access their voting locations and fulfill their civic duty,” SacRT General Manager and CEO Henry Li said in a prepared statement last week.
SacRT isn’t the only transit district offering free rides to the polls: Yolobus and San Joaquin RTD are both offering free rides on several of their fixed-route bus routes on Election Day.
The Secretary of State’s office maintains this list of California voting locations. All voting locations will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
