Il trovatore (The Troubadour) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto written by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play El trovador (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. This opera which was written during Verdi’s very productive middle period which also included La Traviata and Rigoletto, has been an audience favorite since it premeier in Rome in 1853. This live 1962 recording stars Franco Corelli and Leontyne Price. Herbert von Karajan conducts the Vienna State Opera.
