Czech composer Antonín Dvořák completed his 4th symphony in 1874, making revisions through 1888. Bedřich Smetana conducted the third movement only of the symphony in 1874. It would be 18 years later until the symphony was finally given a full performance, conducted by Dvořák himself in a series of farewell concerts in Prague before he left for the United States to teach for a few years (in New York, where he would write his "New World" Symphony and the “American” String Quartet, among other familiar works). Hear the Symphony #4 by Dvořák today at 2:00pm on CapRadio Music.
