The Piano Concerto #1 by Dmitri Shostakovich is virtually a double concerto for piano and trumpet, with the trumpet’s sardonic entries billboarding that there’s abundant humor in this work that includes and even parodies a lot of other music, too much to name here, but including quotations of Beethoven, Haydn and even Shostakovich himself in references to his earlier works. Enjoy the musical wit of 27 year old Shostakovich at 2:00pm today.
