Man Suddenly Awakened - engraving from 1806
At 2:00pm hear the charming and tuneful Symphony #94 by Haydn, the "Surprise" symphony, named for the second movement's sudden burst of volume soon after the beginning of its otherwise quiet start. Haydn denied that it was his intent, but the "surprise" was known to suddenly awaken audience members who may have been nodding off.
