Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
“It transports us into a world where we cannot recall ever having been before.”
That's what Robert Schumann said when he discovered the manuscript of the Symphony #9 by Franz Schubert in 1839 in Vienna, eleven years after Schubert's death. All that time unknown and never performed, Schumann brought the symphony to Leipzig where Felix Mendelssohn agreed to conduct it later in 1839. And this is how the world came to have Franz Schubert's Symphony #9, later titled "The Great C Major." Hear it today at 2:00pm on CapRadio Music.
