Antonín Dvořák’s Fifth Symphony is a masterpiece showcase of his growth as a symphonist. Composed within just six summer weeks during an extremely productive period in 1875 when the young, mostly unknown, composer would also be honored with the first of many annual state stipends to free him from the anxiety of his humble (financially struggling) position, his F-major is a vivacious symphony with a nocturne-like slow movement, and dances and pastoral themes that reflect his love of Czech folk traditions and the Bohemian landscape. Dvořák's Fifth Symphony is today's uplifting Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm today on CapRadio Music.
