Classical Music Playlist, October 1, 2021
Composed at the time of Finland’s struggle for independence, and with its folk themes and distinctly national flavor, the 2nd Symphony of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius was immediately lauded as a nationalist statement against Russia's sanctions against Finnish language and culture... except by Sibelius who denied that was his intent. But nearly everyone agrees that it’s a masterpiece, and it's today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
