What is known in the U.S. as “The Graduation Music” is known in England - where composer Edward Elgar wrote the tune - as a sporting anthem, a traditional fixture in the “Last Night at the Proms” concerts every year, and a general patriotic song known as “Land of Hope and Glory.” But even that famous "graduation" music is just one of two themes in one particular March, from a set of five Marches. And you’ll hear that entire set of “Pomp and Circumstance” Marches (including the one with "the graduation music") by Edward Elgar for today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
